Anyone who’s been reading mymilligram knows what a big fan I am of tinctures, especially with a balanced 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC. I love their precise dosing, the sublingual administration (right under your tongue!), quick onset, and the ability to explore the right dose for you by titrating up (or down) as needed.

While many tinctures taste good enough to drop right into your mouth, some folks can find them to be too grassy, especially beginners. With Lightly Lifted 1:1 Microdose Drops, the citrusy flavor profile was designed to not only make these drops ideal for dropping into your mouth, but also for adding to beverages and food.

The drops have lemony and tangerine notes, a bright and citrusy taste that is built for drinks! You can drop them into your bubbly water, soda, or a cocktail (my friend Christopher Longoria, the beverage director at Che Fico, drops them right into cocktails at home as a float, and he really digs the drops in sake!).

But the modern cannabis move is to try the drops in non-alcoholic Pot-tails, as Lightly Lifted calls them. They created some low-dose and zero-proof recipes you can try, from a Ginger-Strawberry Fizz to a Lifted Lemon Drop, and you get a drink recipe with your mymilly box order. Pot-tails are a great alternative to winding down with alcohol, with similar chillaxed effects, but no hangover and less calories.

Since you’re consuming the drops through your digestive system, they can take a little while to show up—it depends upon your metabolism, your tolerance, and what you may already have in your stomach that day. You may start to feel a lift from the THC in 20 minutes, or 40 minutes, or even two hours later. I tend to feel serene, relaxed, and a little more sensual after a 3mg serving. The balanced 1:1 ratio also helps keep things mellow and not too elevated.

I like to front-load a little and put some drops under my tongue (like half a dropper/1.5mg CBD and THC) and just let them absorb sublingually as they dissipate in my mouth, and then put the rest of the dropper in my beverage for a later appearance (see ya guys in a little bit!). One dropper (1ml) contains 3mg of CBD and THC. If you’re new to cannabis, think about starting with 1.5mg or 2mg—you can try a bit more another day. Have a little something in your stomach. And always wait a couple hours before doing more. (You can read more in Lightly Lifted’s first timer’s guide.)

You can also try drops of Lightly Lifted on food! I have added these zesty drops onto my cheese and crackers (it tastes so good with chèvre), into my salad and salad dressing, over popcorn, and even on my salmon rice bowl and a cheesy pasta dish for dinner! It’s just like adding a little pop of lemon as a flourish! Drop some on your olive party plate! Adding Lightly Lifted to food can mean you may not feel effects for 45 minutes, and up to two hours, but it really helps with getting relaxed before bedtime.

Lightly Lifted is from a San Francisco-based, husband-and-wife team: Caitlin and Jake Seidman. They created this product as a way to relax and unwind—as busy and over-extended parents, they didn’t want to deal with a crash or fog in the morning (typically the next-day gift from alcohol). While I would recommend a whole-plant tincture to someone using cannabis for more medicinal needs, I find this tincture to be perfect for lifestyle: relaxing, cooking, entertaining, and chilling out.

They really worked on the formulation: the carrier oil that they developed is made from 100 percent natural components, and specifically optimized for their 1:1 ratio and cannabis concentration. [Now put on your lab coat.] The formulation contains multiple lipid fractions, similar to MCT coconut oil, but different in that they use much shorter fatty acid ester lengths, which are metabolized rapidly and help the cannabinoids absorb more quickly. There is also a full-spectrum hemp seed oil component, hemp-derived terpenes, tocopherol (vitamin E), and oregano extract (used as natural preservatives).
