Remember how people would warn that cannabis is a gateway to other drugs? (Um, maybe? Ha-ha.) Well, how about the gateway to cannabis? If you’ve been trying to introduce cannabis to friends and family, infused popcorn is one unintimidating way to do it, and I’ve seen it with my own eyes!
I brought over a bag of Pop-Up Potcorn to my parents’ house so I could sample it (I don’t own a microwave, they do), popped up a bag of the 1:1 (around 5mg of CBD and 5mg THC per bag) and the next thing I know, the rents were digging their hands in the bowl mere seconds after I explained the dosage. (Split between three people, we’d probably not feel much more than a little happy and relaxed.) Just like that, boom, both of my parents were enjoying an infused product with me like it was completely normal. And guess what? It is! What a wonderful time to be alive.
Pop-Up Potcorn comes in three different formulations, so you can start the rents (or yourself!) with a bag of the CBD version (around 10mg of CBD), which won’t have any lift, just chill (some folks can get a little activated by CBD, but most are calmed by it). You can eat the entire bag yourself, and it’s just 190 calories. I say bring bags of this to work for your afternoon snack sesh, and help keep the stress from looking at your exploding inbox in check.
You can then upgrade to the 1:1—since it’s 5mg of CBD and 5mg THC per bag, I’d recommend splitting it with someone if you’re new to cannabis or sensitive to THC. Remember, intoxicating effects from cannabis are felt around 2mg–2.5mg, and the lift can register a bit stronger from edibles (vs. a sublingual, for example). But, it’s also a balanced ratio, so the CBD will keep the THC in check, and you get the benefits of the Entourage Effect. Winning!
Expect to feel effects come on in about 45 minutes to an hour or so—by the time your movie ends, you’ll be relaxed and ready for bed. (This is the perfect snack for binge-watching since the effects take time to come on.)
Are you comfy with cannabis? Then go for the 10mg THC bag and have a true night of Netflix and Chill! (I have to split the bag with someone, you definitely feel the effects! It’s a hybrid cannabis oil, and feels pretty potent.)
Best of all, Pop-Up Potcorn tastes super-delicious. Move the hell over, Orville. Founder Rob Arabian does it the right way, with organic California popcorn; fair trade, organic palm oil; and Pacific Ocean sea salt. No artificial flavors, added sugars, GMOs, or other nonsense.
Arabian has been involved in the medical cannabis industry since 2006, and is the owner of Good Sun Farm in Northern California, which, as you can tell by the name, produces sun-grown cannabis. He’s a big believer in sustainable agriculture and practices and the organic food movement, and it comes through in this edibles product he thoughtfully developed (it began as a snack for movie night at the farm)! For Pop-Up Potcorn, he works with Weird Science Labs for the infused oil.
I think Pop-Up Potcorn is mighty tasty on its own—I love the flavor of it (it’s not weedy, but there is a light note of cannabis)—but go for it and add some of your favorite toppings, from Parmesan to brewer’s yeast (try some oregano, it pairs well with the weed!). You’ll probably be more inspired about flavors and toppings after you eat it, LOL. You can also take things next-level and make this rosemary and Aleppo pepper party mix. Get that party poppin’!
